The silver nitrate patina process is a special application used by Frogman. Silver Nitrate starts as a colorless white crystal powder which melts at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. The silver nitrate becomes a part of our two-fold patina process. The silver nitrate is applied to the piece first and at a much higher temperature than our standard patina. Then, a colored pigment patina is applied all over the silver. The pigment is used to ass the color to the piece and only certain shades of the color allow the translucence of the silver nitrate patina to shimmer through.
